Eddie Basha

We would like to take a moment to observe the passing of Mr. Eddie Basha. He was in important figure in Arizona for so many years, and has a huge impact on a great number of people.

Eddie Basha was the head of the local Basha’s supermarket chain. He was also a pioneer of the local food movement. In fact has has been called “the father of the local food movement in Arizona.” Unfortunately   we never had the chance to work directly with Mr. Basha, but in the course of working with his company and others who knew him, we heard nothing but great things.

Please take a moment to find out more about a great Arizonan.

Tuck Shop

Tuck Shop

Tuck Shop

In our outs and abouts around Arizona we are constantly running into others that support the local food movement, and go above and beyond to use local products where others might have been easier. We are always excited to see this, and from time to time we like to praise these like minded people.

Local Natural Foods would like to thank Tuck Shop for supporting Arizona local products. They have gone the extra mile to use local food in their dishes whenever possible. From schreiners sausage to local produce, to our Cahill Prickly Pear Syrup. They go the extra mile to support our local community.

Be sure to check out their mac n cheese with lobster. It is truly an amazing rendition of the classic comfort food. Also try the stuffed medjool dates. The locally sourced dates are a real treat for those of us who do not regularly eat dates.

Since 1949 they have been focused on making the best products they can, and not always taken the time to communicate with their customers.

However Cahill Desert Products is proud to announce their new website:

They aim to use their new website to better communicate with their loyal customers, as well as offering special promotions and news on any new products that they are going to offer.

Prickly Pear Mimosa

This year we have closed up shop early for christmas, and headed down to mexico for some r&r. This morning we woke up to the sounds of the beach. Someone suggested we have prickly pear mimosas. I am surprised that we have never thought of this before, but it turns out that they are delicious.

Local Food Producer Resource

Every once in a great while I am struck by someone who has realized one of my dreams before I did. One such instance of this is Local First AZ’s index of local businesses. they have gone through and done an amazing job of putting together a comprehensive list of local businesses, and what exactly they do.

The most exciting part for us at Local Natural Foods is that they have put in an entire section of local food producers. This ranges from local farmers, to processors and beyond. They have taken the time to include contact information, a short bio of the organization, and tagged everyone by their specialties.

If you are looking for a local food item that we don’t carry, please check out their index here.

Certified Local Fall Festival

Over the weekend I had the chance to find out what Local First AZ is all about. In addition to helping out local businesses, they  put together some awesome events throughout the year to help people support local Arizona Businesses.

One such event is coming up shortly. On November 10th they are holding a certified local fall festival with great local products. This will be an awesome way to start your Christmas shopping.

It’s in downtown Phoenix right off of the light rail, so if you have Saturday afternoon free, you should check it out.
